Returnly Tags are special product-level or order-level tags that drive a specific functionality within the Returnly system. This is available to all merchants (with the exception of the Green Return tag, a Returnly Premium only feature).
Here are some examples of what they can be used to do:
- Mark products as non-returnable, preventing customers from initiating a return for those items
- Override your return policy’s default eligibility window or return shipping rate
- Generate an additional label for a single product
- Display the length, width, and height on return shipping label and take these dimensions into account for shipping costs
For product-level tags, it is best to keep in mind that once an order has been created and fed into Returnly, these tags can no longer be modified. This means that by adding any of these Returnly tags on the product-level would only affect new orders moving forward. All previous orders would retain their original product-level tags.
Any merchant using Shopify can add Returnly Tags to their products. Merchants using other e-commerce platforms can also use these tags if their platform supports them. Each Returnly Tag would follow the same format (with the full list shown below): rtly-tag-name:modifier
Adding Returnly Tags in Shopify
You can add a Returnly Tag when you are creating or editing products or orders.
- Open the specific product or order details page in Shopify.
- In the Tags section, enter the name of the tag you want to add or select it from the list of existing tags. If you enter the name for a new tag, it will automatically be created for future use.
- Select Save.
You can also add a Returnly Tag from the full list that appears when you select View all tags on the product or order details page.
- In the Tags section, select View all tags.
- Select a tag from the list.
- Select Apply changes.
Available Return Policy Returnly Tags
Below is an example of what tagging can look like.
Typically, it's best practice to focus on just one or two of these return policy tag types (especially Product & Order Tags, and Product Types: relying on SKUs is less common and can present a lot more manual data entry). Having a mix of all three tag types can get confusing and hard to keep track of, so make sure there is alignment and structure in how you want to tag things, at scale.
Non-Returnable SKU Tag
- Tag: rtly-non-returnable-sku:#
- Example: rtly-non-returnable-sku:1001
- Description: Makes a specific SKU non-returnable.
Non-Returnable Tag
- Tag: rtly-non-returnable
- Example: rtly-non-returnable
- Description: Makes a specific product or order non-returnable. This is not dependent on the non-returnable product and order tags listed in your Returns Policy.
Returns Policy Window Tag
- Tag: rtly-policy-window-days:#
- Example: rtly-policy-window-days:365
- Description: Overrides the default Returns Policy eligibility window for a product or order.
Available Return Shipping Label Returnly Tags
Dimension Tag
- Tag: rtnly-dimensions-lwh:#_#_#
- Example: rtnly-dimensions-lwh:32_22_13
- Description: Factors the length, width, and height (in inches) of a return into the shipment's label rate calculation.
Single Item Tag
- Tag: rtly-shipping-group:single-item
- Example: rtly-shipping-group:single-item
- Description: Generates an additional label per quantity of a product in a return. Use cases would include shipping oversized, heavy, or fragile items.
Shipping Rate Tag
- Tag: rtly-shipping-rate:#
- Example: rtly-shipping-rate:5
- Description: Overrides the default Returns Policy shipping rate for a product or order. If this tag is applied to multiple products in an order with varying rates, the highest rate would be reflected as the shipping rate.
Available Feature Add-on Returnly Tags
Multi-warehouse Tag
- Tag: rtly-ship-to:{warehouse_tag}
- Example: rtly-ship-to:newyork
- Description: Indicates which warehouse location address would be printed on the return shipping label. This tag should only be used for products or orders that would be returned to locations outside of your current default return shipping address. With each label generated, a corresponding packing slip will be provided for printing and inclusion inside the package. Each packing slip will include line item information on the products associated with the corresponding return label.
The multi-warehouse functionality is only offered to accounts on Returnly Premium and can be enabled upon request by reaching out to support@returnly.com.
Shipping Carrier Account Tag
- Tag: rtly-carrier-account-tag:{carrier_tag}
- Example: rtly-carrier-account-tag:UPS
- Description: Determines which carrier account a return shipping label would be generated from for accounts with multiple carrier integrations. The carrier tag would correspond to the tag assigned to a specific carrier account in the Returnly system.
This feature would be available for accounts on Returnly Premium and can be configured by reaching out to support@returnly.com.
Product Recommender Exclusion Tag
- Tag: rtly-do-not-recommend
- Example: rtly-do-not-recommend
- Description: When applied at the product level, excludes that product from being recommended to any shopper who has initiated an RMA. Use of this tag necessitates that our Product Recommender solution first enabled for your account.
Green Returns Tag (Returnly Premium Only)
- Tag: rtly-green-return
- Example: rtly-green-return
- Description: Shopper does not have to physically return the product.
