Returnly supports Shopify's Locations functionality by allowing you to associate your Returnly Warehouses with a Location in Shopify. When a return is sent to one of your Warehouses (and you have chosen to restock the item) it will update the inventory at the Location associated with it. 

Before updating your Returnly account, it's important to note the difference between a Returnly Warehouse and a Shopify Location. 

  • A Returnly Warehouse is the address that is entered by a merchant in the Returnly merchant dashboard and is printed on all return labels that are generated when shoppers return an item.  
  • A Shopify Location allows merchants to manage inventory at multiple stores with different addresses.  

Enable Locations in Shopify

Assign Shopify Locations to Existing Warehouses in Returnly

Returnly now requires a Shopify Location to be associated with a Returnly Warehouse. To associate a Shopify Location with your Warehouse, the Location must exist in Shopify first.

  1. In your Returnly Dashboard, click Your Account
  2. Click Addresses > Warehouses
  3. You will see a Shopify Location associated with your Warehouse, to change the assigned Location click Edit 
  4. Choose a Location and press Save

Add New Warehouses in Returnly

Some merchants are leveraging the multiple Warehouse feature within Returnly. This allows merchants to send return items to different Warehouses by leveraging Returnly tags. To add new Warehouses in Returnly, follow the steps outlined in our Help Center article, available here

After adding your new Warehouses, assign a Shopify Location to each Warehouse.

Note: Returnly's multiple Warehouse feature is available for Business plan merchants and above. If you would like to enable this feature, reach out to support@returnly.com.
    

Deleting Locations in Shopify

If you delete a Shopify Location that is actively associated with a Returnly Warehouse, you will be required to choose a new Warehouse association within Returnly. Until this is updated, Returnly will not be able to restock to this Warehouse.
    

Adding Locations in Shopify

If you enable the feature or add new Locations to Shopify, we will import those Locations 14:00 UTC (6:00 am PST) the next day and you will be able  associate them to the Warehouse of your liking.
   

Common Questions

What if we're leveraging a third-party to manage our inventory?

If you're leveraging a third-party to manage inventory, we recommend you take the following steps:

  1. Make sure the auto-restock setting is disabled. Your third-party provider will likely be handling your inventory management, so you will not want Returnly restocking items in Shopify as well. To see your auto-restock setting, go to:
    Returnly Dashboard
    > Returns Policy > Auto-Restock Products OFF. We understand that every integration is different, so please check with your third party provider before making any changes.
  2. Associate a Shopify Location with each Returnly Warehouse just in case. If you ever decide to restock from Returnly, we are required to specify a Location or the refund will fail. To ensure there are no failures, associate all Warehouses with a Shopify Location. If you do not, we will associate one automatically.

What if we are not using the Locations feature?

No problem! We will still require you to update the Returnly app in case you choose to turn the feature on in the future. Otherwise, it's business as usual!

What if we only have one Location in Shopify?

If you only have one Location in Shopify, we will automatically associate your Returnly Warehouses to that one Location.
